Making the most out of online resources

Making the most out of online resources

Chantal Elian

With so many incredible resources available and accessible to everyone, regardless of which stage in your education or career you are at, it can make it hard to know where to start and how to make the most out of them!

Being able to make the most of online resources when you need them, and making sure they are not forgotten in the meantime, can mean they are more effective and allow you to take full advantage of all the great tips, advice and information that they have.

Take the time to see what is on offer

The best way to make the most out of a resource is to know exactly what it has to offer in the first place. There are often many sections to any website and social media pages to work alongside them too. Taking some time to look around a website can be a great way to understand where to find what and it might even reveal something new that you didn’t know was there!

Not every resource will suit what you need at any one time, so knowing what options you have can be a great way to skip to what you need, when you need it. Whether you want tips, insights, advice or detailed information on a certain topic - knowing what there is available for each can mean that when you, or someone you know, needs something, you have a good idea where to go to find it.

Find the right fit for you

It can be helpful to find a way to fit the resources into your routine so that you naturally visit them more often. It can sometimes be hard to keep up with new articles and information when you find that you don’t always have the time to remember to visit the website as often as you would like.

Finding the right fit can mean that when things get busy, your favourite resources aren’t forgotten and you are continually getting the most of out what they offer all year round.

There are a number of ways you can access resources and we all have our own habits when it comes to using online resources. If you know that checking your emails or social media is something that you do most regularly, then maybe signing up to a mailing list or following a website's social media accounts will suit you and fit the resource into your routine.

Keep track of anything you want to come back to

It can be so easy to see something you want to read or keep reading and then forget to come back to it later. Whether it is an email, an article or even a new website find a way to make a note so that you can revisit when you have some spare time later on.

There are a number of ways you could make a note of something, whether it is flagging an email, adding a bookmark to the webpage or even writing the link down on your phone or on paper. Finding a way to keep track so that you can revisit a resource later on can not only save you from missing out on it if you completely forget about it, but also save you a lot of time trying to search for it again from scratch if you only remember the vague details of it!
