Withers trainees held to account

Trainees at Withers are to complete a finance seat in the firm's accounts department to gain insight into how the business operates. Day-to-day tasks will include checking for outstanding fees, chasing up clients for payment and liaising with partners to find out whether their financial exposure limits for certain clients need to be revised. Withers training partner Daniel Isaac said: "Being a successful lawyer in private practice requires a thorough understanding of the business of providing legal services and we hope a short stint with our finance team will provide a good grounding for this."

A Withers trainee commented: "I have certainly realised that the job is not finished once the legal side is done, as the legal work means little if the firm does not get paid."
