Our philosophy continues to be to provide an effective, first class legal service to businesses and private clients and we achieve this by being:

We are committed to quality and hold both the Investors in People and Lexcel awards. We are also proud of the people that work for us and who help the firm achieve its successes.

Training contract programme

We take our responsibilities to trainees seriously. We hope that today's trainees will be tomorrow's partners. From their first day, our trainees are immersed in the practical application of the law in a modern, commercial environment.

We take a structured and informed approach to career progression and only ever recruit trainees with the intention that they stay with us throughout their career.

Shulmans offers trainees a career opportunity in a firm with high-quality clients and work, where they can gain experience in all areas of the practice. Our training contracts provide the scope and potential for trainees to develop their practical skills as well as the chance to develop and enhance their legal knowledge.

Types of work

We serve all sectors of the business world. Our strength in depth, expertise and flexibility provide our strong client base with a reliable, cost-effective service that delivers time after time. We act for a full range of clients, from an enviable list of plc and institutional clients to small new businesses and private individuals.

Commercially based work forms the core of our business and this encompasses all areas of corporate, company and commercial work, including corporate finance, employment, property and development work and litigation.

The firm is a leading member of Interlegal, an association of law firms across the world, which provides an international element to the firm's work and the possibility of trainee solicitor exchanges with other law firms in the network.

Each trainee has a mentor who can provide advice and guidance. There was also a good sense of camaraderie amongst the trainees and it was always good to know that there was someone I could talk to who was in a similar position to me.

Shulmans provides a friendly and supportive working environment where trainees are treated as valuable members of the team. The training I received was comprehensive, both in terms of the high level of responsibility and the wide variety of legal work I was given.
