More info

We accept location specific applications for training contracts in London, Thames Valley (Oxford or Reading), Cardiff and Southampton.

Applications should be made here on our website.

Our recruitment and selection process is made up of four stages.

The first stage is an online application form (including your CV) where we gather standard information about you like your grades at college and university, work experience, references and personal information. However, we mostly use the application form as a platform to learn more about you as an individual; why you've chosen a career in law, your hobbies and interests outside of work and why you feel you would be a great fit for Blake Morgan, and Blake Morgan the right fit for you. During the screening process we are looking for individuality, honesty, passion, communication skills, attention to detail, commercial awareness and relationship building, and alignment with our ACTS values. Every candidate is individually screen by a member of the graduate recruitment team. Candidates will not be automatically declined as a result of their grades or the university that they attended.

Once we've reviewed applications, we invite successful candidates to a short  interview with a member of our graduate recruitment team. The interview will be held online, using a dedicated virtual platform. During the interview you will be asked questions which will be chosen to identify your drivers, motivations and interest in building your career at Blake Morgan.

Successful candidates that are short-listed after this stage will be invited to attend a panel interview in their chosen region. This panel will include a partner, legal director and HR business partner. At the beginning of the interview, you will be given a hypothetical legal question, and asked to present your legal considerations to the panel. After this, you will enter the Q&A element of the interview. The questions will cover different distinct areas, including analytical ability, commercial awareness, change management, initiative and resilience.

The decision will then be made as to who we will be making formal training contract offers to, to join us at Blake Morgan. All second-stage outcomes will be made by telephone.

Blake Morgan is a law firm with a range of 70 legal services for commercial and private clients, across many sectors, regionally, nationally and internationally.

We act for large corporates, entrepreneurs and owner-managed businesses, public sector and charity organisations. We have specific expertise in banking and finance; central, devolved and local government; charities; development and construction; education; health and social care; regulators; retail and leisure and social housing. We act for private clients in wills and inheritance planning, tax and trusts, to the administration of landed estates, residential, property and family law. We give our clients a single point of contact to manage their affairs; one who makes things happen in our specialist teams so that our clients get the advice that they need.

We believe business and community are inextricably linked and we aim to play an active role locally and regionally, focusing our energy, enthusiasm and funding in the areas where we can have most impact. Our people are keen to give something back to the local communities where they work and live. Every year, they are involved in a host of fundraising, volunteering and mentoring initiatives, which benefit hundreds of charities, organisations and individuals. Our firm is proud of their efforts and keen to support them in every way we can, including charity/office partnerships and matching funds raised by teams and individuals.

Our vision is to be the firm of choice for our clients and our people. Our aim is to make a difference – through exemplary service, teamwork, integrity and innovation – for our clients, our people and our communities.

We offer ad hoc work placements throughout the year.

The Blake Morgan training contract is made up of four six-month seats in various areas of the business giving a wide range of experience and opportunity. Although our first-year trainee seats are often selected through business need, during your second year we will endeavour to give you the seats of your choosing, including secondments to some of our biggest clients. We ask that you join with an open mind though, as most people find they love the practice area that they loathed during their LPC*. You will also attend your professional skills courses throughout the first year of your training contract*.

Our trainees have a wide support network from the graduate recruitment team, who will be with you from the day you submit your application to the end of your first year as a newly qualified solicitor, to your seat supervisor, assigned mentor, regional training partner, training principal and the other trainees.

Our trainees are considered a member of the team from the minute they start each seat. You will be invited to attend client meetings, networking events, graduate recruitment events and various training sessions to help you develop your own knowledge, skills and confidence.

*subject to whether you undertake the traditional PoRT or SQE route.

Graduates that have yet to undergo the GDL or LPC, will be offered the SQE as their route to qualification. This will still mirror our current training contract (four seats).

If you have any further questions about the SQE and how this might impact your training contract please contact a member of the HR team.

Blake Morgan strives to create and maintain a positive, non-discriminatory work environment. We will ensure that all applications for vacancies will be considered without discrimination against any person on the basis of race, colour, religion, disability, nationality, ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, age or marital status. We strive to ensure that our shortlisting and interviewing panels are diverse. Further details about our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) can be found here.

Internally we have a thriving and enthusastic EDI Commitee and work with our EDI Champions on various streams including gender, LGBTQ+, family, disability and neurodiversity, ethnicity and belief and social mobility. There are a lot of great initiatives and events for you to immerse yourself in as part of your career at Blake Morgan.

We offer financial support towards your LPC/SQE and a sustenance grant should you decide to undertake the course full-time.

We do not currently offer financial support towards the GDL.
