Purpose of the role

To provide the legal and commercial support required within an integrated team in relation to all aspects of our media and entertainment business; such as product development, fund structuring and establishment, fund and investor management and advising investee businesses on all development, production, exploitation and financing arrangements and other corporate and commercial transactions within the live events, film and television sectors.  

The media team incorporates commercial, financial and legal disciplines, and the role will primarily be focused on assisting personnel working within the legal function on the structuring and documentation of film, television and live event transactions on behalf of various entities advised, operated or managed by the media division. The post holder will also be responsible for administrative and/or investor-facing work, including liaising directly with relevant stakeholders and investors (or their advisors) as required.

The team of lawyers working in the media division currently consists of one director, two senior executives, three executives, five associates, two trainee solicitors and one paralegal. The team also have one legal admin co-ordinator and one legal team assistant in terms of additional resource.


Key accountabilities

  • Liaise with and assist the legal, commercial and financial specialists within the media division in relation to deal negotiations and helping to co-ordinate prompt decision-making among key stakeholders. 
  • Support principal commercial negotiators and lawyers in negotiations on media division transactions, maintain up-to-date records, correspondence and filing.
  • Support legal team members to ensure that each transaction complies with all relevant corporate and regulatory requirements and is completed according to the required timescales.
  • Provide proactive legal support to the media division on projects that are in-contract and completed, and assist monitoring of on-going performance to enable the business to anticipate issues and manage risks that may arise.
  • Assist the members of the media division with commercial and legal aspects of product development and maintenance, including responsibility for the administrative functions required for the effective operations of the investments.
  • Review or perform legal due diligence as required.
  • Assist the members of the media division with commercial and legal queries from investors and investee companies.
  • Liaise with and work alongside external parties and counsel where required.
  • Assist in the media division's, and its directors'/managements', ongoing compliance with their respective responsibilities under law and regulation. 
  • Contribute to the know-how of the team, researching and presenting research to other legal team members.
  • Liaise with the company secretarial, compliance and technical functions as necessary on the media division’s transactions and products.

Role requirements

  • Previous experience of working in a paralegal role on complex cases in either private practise or in house
  • Strong academics at both A level and degree level
  • Flexible and proactive approach
  • Ability to work under pressure without getting flustered
  • Discreet
  • Ability to deal with a wide range of people, including demanding clients
  • Eye for detail
  • High organisational skills
