Paralegal (contentious property)

We are seeking a confident, proactive, enthusiastic and professional full time paralegal to provide support to our well-regarded contentious property team based in our Bedford Row office.

The contentious property team is amongst the top real estate litigation teams in London and punches well above its weight, competing with much larger firms. It acts for household names including Pret a Manger, Matalan, Sports Direct, and listed residential landlord Grainger plc amongst many other clients. The team deals with most aspects of commercial and residential property related dispute resolution including rent and possession recovery, service charge disputes, business lease renewals, and boundary, restrictive covenant and right of way disputes.

Main duties:

Your main role will be managing your own caseload of residential possession claims involving:

  • Taking instructions from clients, obtaining and collating the necessary paperwork; 
  • Drafting and serving letters before action and possession notices;
  • Providing initial advice; 
  • Preparing and updating monthly case status reports for clients;
  • Conducting possession claims, preparing evidence, instructing counsel, providing ongoing advice, occasionally attending court hearings with counsel; and
  • Enforcing court orders and occasionally attending bailiff appointments.

Your secondary role will be to assist solicitors with their cases

Personal characteristics:

  • Whilst the successful candidate will receive close supervision and support from experienced solicitors, he or she will be required to manage a large workload autonomously;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills are required as the role will involve the efficient and cost effective management of multiple files, working to strict deadlines; 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential to demonstrate understanding of our clients’ needs and expectations and when communicating with colleagues; 
  • Focussed attention to detail, speed and accuracy are important for all written documentation; and
  • The candidate should be a team player and contribute to the success of the team.

Essential skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (2007)/IT literate
Essential experience:
  • Law graduate and LPC qualified

Desirable experience:

  • Previous paralegal experience of civil litigation
  • LPC landlord and tenant elective would be an advantage
  • Residential landlord and tenant experience would be an advantage
