Our legal organisation focuses on connecting our customers' businesses to the ever-changing legal and regulatory environment. We provide critical online and print information, decision support tools, software and services to lawyers who practice in law firms, in corporate legal departments and in the public sector. We are a growing business in the UK, especially since the acquisition of Practical Law Company in 2013. We are very excited about the next stage in our growth and how you can play a part in it.

Summary

To provide efficient and responsive editorial assistance for Practical Law Commercial.

Major responsibilities

With support and supervision from fellow team members:

  • write initial drafts of new content and liaise with others as appropriate to ensure that the content is up-to-date and reflects current market legal practice and is of the quality and scope that meets the business objectives and needs of customers
  • maintain and improve content and liaise with others as appropriate to ensure that content is up-to-date and reflects current market legal practice and is of the quality and scope that meets business objectives and the needs of customers
  • Carry out legal research as required.
  • Sub-edit and proof content prior to online publication.
  • Assist with identifying content in need of periodic review and ensure that the review process takes place, liaising where appropriate with external contributors.
  • Responding to and providing support for others to respond to queries from customers.
  • Assist, as required, with the daily process of collecting information for the current awareness emails and delivery of those emails,
  • Assist with online publication processes
  • Assist with organization of customer events, and attend training events, conferences and other networking opportunities
  • Management of internal process and general administrative duties 

Qualifications

Mandatory skills and experience: 

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Experience in assimilating and applying new complex information.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent knowledge of legal research databases.
  • Experience in using technology to create and disseminate online content. 

Desirable skills and experience: 

Experience working in some of all of the following areas of law:

  • Advertising and marketing
  • General contract law.
  • E-commerce.
  • Outsourcing.
  • Distribution.
  • Consumer.
  • Agency.
  • Supply of goods/services.
  • Franchising.
  • Experience in producing well-written practical legal content efficiently of a nature that will be relevant for publication and/or teaching. 

Education/certifications required: 

  • UK qualified solicitor, barrister or legal executive.
  • Legal Practice Course (LPC), Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) or equivalent.
  • Law degree (2.1 or above); or other degree (2.1 or above) and General Diploma in Law.
