Assistant editor (international portals and collections - Practical Law)

We provide critical online and print information, decision support tools, software and services to lawyers who practice in law firms, in corporate legal departments and in the public sector. We are a growing business in the UK, especially since the acquisition of Practical Law Company in March 2013 and we are very excited about the next stage in our growth and how you can play a part in it. 
 
Assistant editor, international portals and collections 
 
Role purpose:
 
The assistant editor, international portals and collections will report to the head of international content and have responsibility for developing and maintaining the Practical Law regional portals and other collections of content designed to meet the needs of international subscribers. 
 
Major responsibilities:
  • To develop and maintain the regional portals. For example through regular trawls of new content, cold-towel reviews, and liaison with relevant Practical Law services, or in response to feedback from clients and Thomson Reuters colleagues. 
  • Research and create new regional portals. For example through quantitative analysis of subscriber usage and demographics, qualitative analysis of Practical Law content, providing input into page design concepts. 
  • To provide editorial analysis, insight and support to the Practical Law globalisation project. 
  • To provide editorial and administrative support to other international projects as requested by the head of international content. 
  • To act as a point of contact for the international editorial team and build relationships with other internal stakeholders/departments, in particular other Thomson Reuters business units involved in the globalisation project, product, strategy, marketing and web production teams. 
  • To understand and document the content requirements of Practical Law’s international subscribers, for example through monitoring direct feedback received by email or from local sales teams, by developing surveys and by conducting client interviews. 
  • Submission of website change requests and liaising with the product and web production teams to carry out changes to the site 
  • Carrying out research into specific areas of law as directed. - providing some editorial and commissioning support for materials on the regional portals and other international collections, both independently and in partnership with other Thomson Reuters business units and service editors, to ensure all materials are properly integrated and reflect Practical Law editorial guidelines. 
Skills and experience:
  • Good legal knowledge and excellent written English. 
  • Excellent IT skills using Microsoft Office and other applications. 
  • Fast and accurate keyboard skills. 
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a close knit team and be able to use own initiative. 
  • Ability to see other people's points of view and take on board feedback. 
  • Positive attitude and "can do" approach. 
  • Good time and project management skills. 
  • Ability to prioritise a varied workload and co-ordinate work from different sources. 
  • Excellent attention to detail. - ability to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to build relationships internally and externally. 
Desirable skills and experience:
  • Editorial experience including commissioning, sub-editing and proofing. 
Education/ certifications required:
  • Degree educated, ideally no less than 2.1 and have completed the LPC or equivalent specialist legal course.
