The role

Main duties and responsibilities

The employment team in Birmingham is looking to recruit a paralegal to assist the legal team with various aspects of their casework. The main roles and responsibilities will include (although, this is not an exhaustive list):

  • working to a chargeable hours target;
  • assisting fee earners in aspects of their casework, especially on handling contentious cases;
  • preparing cases for tribunal;
  • liaising by telephone and in writing with third parties, including experts, solicitors, witnesses, Claimants and the tribunal as appropriate
  • drafting general correspondence;
  • preparing cost schedules;
  • gathering and assimilating evidence;
  • attending to disclosure and inspection of documents
  • drafting chronologies;
  • bundling including preparing joint bundle indexes and updating bundles;
  • research;
  • copying and pagination;
  • basic legal analysis;
  • assisting in the preparation of articles, seminars and best practice advice; and
  • any other duties as reasonably requested

Skills set

Candidates should ideally have:

  • at least twelve months experience as a paralegal and at least six months experience in an employment department
  • an LPC or BVC qualification;
  • good communication skills;
  • good administration skills; and
  • basic computer skills.

Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate at interview that they are:

  • well organised;
  • proactive; and
  • self-motivated.
