Top firms OPEN doors to disabled students

updated on 29 October 2012

Six leading law firms are set to attend the third annual OPEN event for disabled students who are interested in a career in commercial law.

This year's OPEN event will take place in central London on 30 November and brings students together with Allen & Overy, Ashurst, Clifford Chance, Freshfields, Hogan Lovells and Linklaters. The day was created to expand awareness of the opportunities within the legal profession for undergraduates with disabilities and long-term health conditions, particularly at commercial law firms. The event also examines issues that are specific to disabled candidates, identifying solutions and highlighting measures that employers can take to ensure that disabled employees can make the most of their potential.

Helen Cooke, the director of My Plus Consulting, which jointly organised the event with Greenlight, said: "This event not only provides a great insight into commercial law, in addition it shows disabled students what is possible. Through the sessions that we run, particularly the panel session, it introduces them to others with disabilities who are enjoying successful careers in the legal sector."
