The University of Law announces new chancellor designate as Fiona Woolf CBE

Fiona Woolf CBE, the corporate lawyer recently appointed as the new lord mayor of the City of London, has been announced as The University of Law (ULaw) chancellor. Woolf began her role for the City of London on 8 November and will take office as chancellor designate in November 2014.

Woolf is currently a partner at CMS Cameron McKenna, specialising in electricity reforms and infrastructure projects. Recently, she has worked with the World Bank with a focus on projects that establish electricity infrastructure in countries emerging from wars. In 1981, she was the first woman to make partner at her law firm as well as being only the second woman to hold the office of president of the Law Society.

Professor Nigel Savage, president of ULaw, said: "Fiona Woolf is a highly distinguished figure in legal practice and will be a great inspiration to students, especially as more than 60% of our student body are female. She is one of the most successful solicitors of my generation and has managed to combine a remarkable career, working in some of the most demanding areas of corporate practice, with extensive service to her profession."
