Law and business: commercial news round-up 30.07.15

Short and sweet this week, so as not to distract you from making your final training contract applications (not that we would never advise submitting on the deadline itself!); here are a few business stories to keep in mind for when you have some leisure time:
- Bookmakers Ladbrokes and Coral are to merge, in a £2.3 billion deal.
- Ofcom has said that the Post Office’s wholesale pricing plan was anti-competitive, in that it made it more expensive for any company looking to run a rival mail delivery service.
- There has been a flurry of activity in the M&A deal market, with over £11 billion worth of UK deals set to take place over the summer.
- Blame falling oil prices; Royal Dutch Shell has announced job cuts of 6,500, at the same time as Centrica (owner of British Gas) announces cuts of 6,000.
