Law and business: commercial news round-up 21.04.16

Another week, another set of business stories to keep on top of. Here are just some that you should lavish your attention on:
- Data from a specialist insolvency firm has shown that the number of UK companies that are in financial trouble has risen by 20% compared to this time last year, with around 21,000 companies ending the first quarter of 2016 “in a state of significant financial distress”.
- A Treasury study estimates that each UK household would be £4,300 worse off if Britain were to leave the European Union, due to the economy shrinking 6% by 2030.
- Of course, Brexit proponents are sceptical about the figures, and say that they are skewed in support of the dominant government position.
- They’ll drink to that: Peroni and Grolsch are sold off to Japan’s Asahi, as part of a beer-related mega-deal valued at £70 billion that will see AB InBev buy SABMiller.
- Mitsubishi is the next car manufacturer to come unstuck by its own false claims, this time in relation to the fuel efficiency of 600,000 cars. The company’s offices have been raided and its shares have plummeted (useful background to scandal here).
