Law and business: commercial news round-up 14.05.15

Post-election, probably the biggest related topic in the City is the prospect of a "Brexit" (ie, Britain exiting the European Union) and what that might mean to investors and UK businesses. News on this commercial hot potato and more to follow:
- Mark Carney has spoken out about the timing of the EU referendum, strongly advising that it be held as soon as possible to avoid “stoking business uncertainty” and spooking investors.
- The Guardian has brought together all the possible areas that a Brexit might affect – including growth, trade, immigration and diplomacy – and detailed what it might mean for each.
- Still looking at global economic ups and the downs, The Economist compares the US slowdown with the Eurozone recovery.
- Music gourmands’ favourite Spotify has published its financial results, highlighting that it continues to be difficult to make a profit from music streaming – this despite its annual revenues passing €1billion for the first time.
- Big law firm news: national firm Gateley is the first UK firm to list on the London Stock Exchange.
- Verizon is going to buy AOL, in a massive deal worth £2.8 billion.
