- Mark Carney, Bank of England supremo, is said to still be considering an interest rate rise in the new year, despite the global turbulence caused by China’s downturn.
- Speaking of which, the International Monetary Fund has warned that China’s woes could have bigger economic repercussions for other countries than might have been expected.
- Rumours abound that Morrisons could be the subject of a takeover by South African businessman Christo Wiese, who already owns Virgin Active and New Look, and part of Iceland, in the United Kingdom.
- Nissan has announced that it is to spend an extra £100 million in its Sunderland manufacturing plant, as part of the drive to create a Northern Powerhouse.
