Horwich Farrelly expands legal apprenticeship programme nationwide

updated on 09 November 2015

Manchester-headquartered firm Horwich Farrelly has announced that it has taken on 10 new legal apprentices this year, making the insurance law specialist’s expanding apprenticeship programme one of the biggest in the North West.

Most of the firm’s apprenticeships are run in conjunction with Manchester Law School, part of Manchester Metropolitan University. Apprentices combine on-the-job training with a partner law school’s accredited teaching. In a similar structure to a training contract, the Horwich Farrelly apprentices experience working across the different areas of the firm on their route to formal qualifications and a career in the legal profession.

Claire Fox, partner at Horwich Farrelly and leader of the firm’s apprenticeship programme, said: “We launched our apprentice scheme in 2013, offering young people an alternative to the traditional degree route by delivering hands-on experience, underpinned by a qualification. This initiative aims to bring a diverse range of talent to our firm, by attracting people who may not previously have considered a career in law. All of the five apprentices we took on in 2013 have now completed the two-year programme and moved on to permanent fee-earning roles, putting them on the path to a promising career. We now have legal apprentices in our Manchester and Liverpool offices, with plans to expand the programme to Sheffield and Cardiff as well as take on two more apprentices in London later this year. The quality of the apprentices is testament to the scheme’s success and ensures Horwich Farrelly can grow a high calibre team for the benefit of the business and our clients.”
