Commercial news round-up: RBS, Scottish Power, zero-hours, Nokia v Apple, Fever Tree

This week, a rare collection of news without any Brexit-related items. Which is not to say that it’s not bubbling away in the background of course, but it’s nice to have a short break from its overt presence. Read on for a staggering variety of commercial news stories:

• A £12 billion High Court trial involving RBS has been delayed after the bank offered a last-minute deal to thousands of investors, totalling £200 million. The trial has been further delayed today as lawyers struggle to locate some claimants.
• Scottish Power has landed a deal to build two large offshore wind farms in the United States that will power around 400,000 homes.
• The government-commissioned inquiry into zero-hours contracts has recommended that workers should have the right to request that they move to fixed hours. McDonald’s already adopts this approach, stating that “20% of employees on zero-hours had asked for a move”.
• A long-running patent dispute between Nokia and Apple has been resolved, with the companies agreeing to cooperate – Apple gets to use the tech, as long as it pays cash up front.
• The co-founder of posh tonic brand Fever Tree has made a cool £73 million having sold a tiny proportion of his shares (3.9%). The company enjoyed a 924% increase in its share price after it floated in November 2014.
