BPP recognises achievements of three "outstanding women" in law, journalism and business

BPP University has awarded honours to three women who have made outstanding contributions to their field of work, including the lawyer Dame Janet Gaymer.

Gaymer is a distinguished employment lawyer; she worked at Simmons & Simmons for 35 years, where she was made senior partner. She has served as the civil service commissioner and commissioner for public appointments. Gaymer was also the co-chair of the consulting steering panel for the Legal Education and Training Review.

On receiving the honour, Gaymer said: "I am delighted to have received this very special honour from an institution which is in the vanguard of the changes [that] are sweeping through the legal services market."

Liz Bingham, managing partner for talent at Ernst & Young, and Merryn Somerset Web, launch editor of Money Week, were also awarded honorary degrees for their contributions to the professional services sector and financial journalism respectively. Carl Lygo, vice chancellor of BPP University, commented: "All three are an inspiration for the young women studying at BPP today…Their commitment, hard work and professionalism have made them outstanding successes in their chosen fields."
