CityLawLIVE event a wild success

On Saturday 25 February the first CityLawLIVE student conference was held in London, bringing together around 160 students keen on a career in the City with firm representatives and industry experts.

The event included panel discussions on the law firm as a business and life as a City lawyer. There was also a keynote speech from Robert Sutton, former senior partner at Macfarlanes, and Anthony Kenny gave his in-house perspective, as European Counsel at The Boston Consulting Group. Afternoon workshops covered five different work areas; financial institutions and investors, disputes, cross-border M&A, digital media and emerging markets. They were hosted by, respectively, SNR Denton, Herbert Smith, Baker & McKenzie, Lewis Silkin, and White & Case.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer ran a very popular CV surgery during the lunch break, as did BPP Law School, The College of Law and Kaplan Law School. The final panel of the day, entitled "The Big Discussion", was chaired by LC.N's Matthew Broadbent, and also featured Gemma Baker (Kaplan Law School), Justine Thompson (Baker & McKenzie), John Stephens (Ashurst) and Amy Elderfield (Apply4Law).

One attendee commented on Twitter: "CityLawLIVE: great opportunity to help you make up your mind about pursuing city law!". Hilary O'Connor, a partner from SJ Berwin and panel member, tweeted: "Impressed by the dedicated and enthusiastic students I met at CityLawLIVE on Saturday."
