With less than a week until the big training contract application deadline of 31 July, you really should be spending your time working on those. However, it is still worth taking a break to top up your commercial awareness levels - look no further than this hand-picked selection of business stories from the broadsheets:
- Tesco boss Philip Clarke announced his resignation on Monday; after being part of the mega-market for nearly 40 years, he said that he felt "enormous relief" to be stepping down, amid criticism for falling profits.
- Confirmation today that the UK economy is back to pre-recession levels - woo-hoo, right? Well, as Robert Peston tells it, it may not be time to pop the cork on the champagne just yet.
- Nevertheless, retail figures continue to head upwards - currently 3.6% higher than they were a year ago.
- The Advertising Standards author provides a definitive answer to the question we’ve all been asking; PG Tips’ pyramid tea bags provide "greater brewing efficiency" when compared to round bags (Tetley had brought a complaint, stating that PG Tips’ claims had “denigrated” its bags in an ad).
- BskyB continues its quest for world domination, buying up Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland for a cool £4.9 billion from parent company Fox.
