Take a break from the scorching heat - or thunder storms, depending where you are - and read up on what’s been preoccupying those business types in the City this week:
- Chinese investment company Hony gets a tasty slice of the action as it buys Pizza Express for £900 million.
- Citigroup must pay $7 billion in a settlement related to claims that it misled investors over mortgage-backed securities. A record amount, although less than the $12 billion that was predicted.
- Inflation rose to 1.9% in June - very close to the 2% target set by the Bank of England.
- What’s on the telly? If you’re watching ITV, it might be a show about the fact that Virgin Media now owns 6.4% of ITV, just bought from its rival BskyB for £481 million.
- The BBC’s business editor Kamal Ahmed wonders whether the era of free banking on the high street could be over now that the Competition Authority is launching an investigation into the behaviours of all UK banks.
