Week nine! Who would have thought. Read on for a series of business-news highlights taken from the broadsheets this week:
- Sky is hit where it hurts (in the share price) when it is revealed that BT has won the right to broadcast Champions League and Europa League football matches, paying £900 million for the privilege.
- Why was the video store like a budget shoe store? This is in fact no joke for Blockbuster and Barratts, both of which went into administration this week.
- Bank of England Governor Mark Carney was delighted to announce that the UK economic recovery has "taken hold" and unemployment is falling. But the BBC's Robert Peston wondered whether the recovery could be "too robust".
- Barclays announced huge job losses in its branches, which unions branded as being a "colossal mistake".
