Law and business: commercial news round-up 09.05.14

updated on 09 May 2014

A shorter week means fewer working days, but still a sufficient number of news stories to sink your teeth into. Take a bite out of this lot:

  • Nigel Farage would have you believe it is forever doomed, but the BBC’s Robert Peston wonders whether the Eurozone can be saved, especially in light of the fact that Portugal, Ireland and Spain have all declared that they no longer need bailing out by the IMF.
  • Tesco down, Sainsbury’s up - latest analysis of supermarkets’ fortunes sees Sainsbury’s making a (small) profit despite "tough retail environment".
  • Barclays boss is shaking things up, in the form of 19,000 jobs to be cut, with the majority going from the bank’s investment arm.
  • Apple eyes up Dr Dre’s Beats headphones, with £1.88 billion deal a possibility.
