The magical 31st July deadline has now passed, so time to kick back and top up your tan, right? Wrong. Hopefully those amazing applications that you submitted will result in an interview (or several). During which, no doubt, you will be asked a few commercial awareness questions. - Fracking hell: new regulations for fracking licences raise concerns among environmentalists, as government claims it would be "irresponsible" not to explore shale gas options.
- In an historic arbitral award, Russia has been ordered to pay $50 billion to Yukos Oil for destroying the company and appropriating its assets.
- LIBOR rolls on, with Lloyds the latest bank to receive a serious telling off – to the tune of £218 million – for its role in the rates-rigging scandal.
- Shelling out to the shareholders: the petrochemical giant Shell plans to spend over $30 billion rewarding its investors by buying back shares and paying higher dividends.
- In the pink? The shirtmaker Thomas Pink, beloved of City types, has won a trademark case in the High Court against Victoria's Secret (possibly also beloved of City types?) for its use of the name "pink" on some of its "sexy, mass-market" lingerie.
