There are non-lawyer opportunities throughout the
civil service, some particularly appropriate to those with legal training.
The Home and Foreign offices, the Lord Chancellor's Department and the
Houses of Parliament themselves have opportunities for lawyers. The Inland
Revenue employs tax inspectors and those with an ability to understand
the intricacies of tax law would be especially appropriate for such jobs.
The Customs & Excise Office and the Immigration Service might also
be receptive to approaches from those with legal training.
Civil Service Fast Stream
The Fast Stream Development Programme
is graduate entry into the Civil Service. The Civil Service serves the
government of the day and supports ministers by turning ideas into actions,
bringing together people of all levels and from a variety of disciplines
to work as a team.
