Who's responsible?
Lots of law firms, that's who! Gone are the days when firms could operate in a societal vacuum, with nary a thought for the broader community. Now, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is something that most firms - especially those of the larger variety - are incorporating into their business models and ways of working. As a result, trainees are encouraged to get involved with pro bono, environmental and other charitable efforts, as are students who are keen on impressing recruiters with their responsible attitude. "It's work you can learn from rather than a two-year academic course where all you do is research. There's always a place for a trainee in any deal that's going on."
