Legal publishing is a small, but growing industry. The specialist publishing business often employs lawyers looking for a career change. There is a good balance between large international publishing houses with legal arms, and dynamic young publishing companies producing news and features magazines, as well as hard law and directory publications. Most national media outlets also have legal correspondents.

Court reporters (shorthand writers) record verbatim court hearings for official transcripts, and should not be confused with media representatives covering courts. You do not have to be legally qualified to enter the profession, but it would be a distinct advantage.
